Oscar “Bill” Stone, 81 of rural South Sioux City passed away Wednesday November 2, 2011 at a South Sioux City Care Center. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Carol Jean Stapleton officiating. Graveside military service will be in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday. Bill was born July 11, 1930, in Nashville, Arkansas the son of Carroll J. and Nora V. (Copeland) Stone. He graduated from High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 until 1960. He married Charelene Sohn May 29, 1957 in South Sioux City. After his discharge he operated a dairy farm until selling it in 1981. He then extended his farm into crop farming and also owned and operated a cattle farm in Arkansas. He served on the Atokad Board, Dakota Thurston Fair Board, was a Dakota County Commissioner, a founder and served on the Rural Water Development board, a founder and served on the board of Siouxland National Bank in South Sioux City, and was a member of the Sioux City Milk Association. He was very active in serving his community and the Dakota County area. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Survivors include his wife Charelene, two sons and their wives: Darrel W. and Nancy Stone of Elk Point, SD, Donald E. and Paula Stone of Nashville, Arkansas, a daughter Paula Duggan of South Sioux City, a brother Sherrill Stone of Garland, Texas, a sister Dorothy Dewey of Garland, Texas, six grandchildren: Dustin Stone, Raymond Duggan, Kristin Sjobom, Ryan Duggan, Hannah Stone and MacKenzie Stone, one great granddaughter Peyton Sjobom. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Raymond C. Stone, and three sisters: Martha Summers, Lenora McNeil and Laverne Ross. Pallbearers will be Raymond and Ryan Duggan, Nic Sjobom, Steve Jensen, Tom Leitschuck and Doug Goddard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Leo Pat Engel, Jim Bliven, Darrel Lieber, Bill Stinger, Bart Gotch, and Doug Garwood. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be directed to Hospice of Sioux Land or the family for distribution.
