Isabell A. Renkel, 94 of South Sioux City passed away Friday, January 6, 2012 at a South Sioux City Care Center. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8:00 P.M. at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Isabell was born March 5, 1917 at home in South Sioux City, NE to Frank E. and M. Gertrude (Wood) Powell. Isabell attended South Sioux City Schools until a teenager then quit to help on the farm. Isabell met and married Walter J. Renkel of Jackson, NE. They were married January 23, 1935 in Sioux City. Isabell and Walter were married thirty-six years. They had one daughter and one son. They moved around during the summer doing highway construction; settling back in South Sioux City where Walter started his own business. Isabell attended classes so she could keep the books for Walter. Walter passed away December 14, 1971 in Sioux City. Isabell didn’t belong to any formal organizations but would help anyone, family or friends. She was the best mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and friend. Everyone loved her. Survivors include a daughter Norma and her husband Kenneth Paltz of Sloan, Iowa, a son Robert and his wife Judy Renkel of Homer, NE, one sister Phyllis Reed of South Sioux City, a half-sister: Janice Paulson of Sioux City, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. Isabell was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters: Charlotte Marquart and Ruth Reed, one brother: Melvin A. Powell and a half-brother: Louis Powell. Pallbearers will be Perry Paltz, Chance Renkel, Rodney Reed, Joe Blocker, Robin and Mat Goudy.
