Rickey D. Palmer 66 of South Sioux City passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer at a Sioux City Hospital with his family at his bedside. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday at Glad Tidings Church in South Sioux City with his nephew the Rev. Michael Ring officiating. Lunch will follow at the church and graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. in Evergreen Cemetery, Walthill, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 4to 8 P.M. Thursday at the church with a prayer service at 7 P.M. Becker – Hunt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Rickey was born September 3, 1945, in Lyons, Nebraska the son of Carl E. and Truth R. (Vassar) Palmer. He attended South Sioux City High School. He married Connie Hunter. He later married Joan Montgomery. He was employed at several Meat Packing Companies; he traveled the country building towers and the Burlington Railroad. He was a member of Glad Tidings Church in South Sioux City. Survivors include a daughter Jessica (Travis) Palmer of Elgin, Nebraska, two sons: Rickey Shane (Jolyn) Palmer of Sioux City, Robert Shawn Palmer of Texas, a brother Stanley (Lucille) Ring of South Sioux City, a sister Oma (Ralph) Rogers of Dakota Dunes, SD, six grandchildren: Taylor, Myranda, Araceli, Jay, Grace and Nickolas, several very special nieces and nephews he loved very much and sisters-in-law Gus, Elaine and Florence Palmer He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers: Bob, Tommy, Billy and Doney Palmer and Donnie Ring, three sisters: Joan Andersen, Lastava Ring and Connie Young. Honorary pallbearers will be George, Payton and Alex Quint and Leo Mace. Casket bearers will be Rod Quint, Kelly Rogers, Travis Mace, Billy Palmer, Elbert Bottorff and Brenton Palmer.
