Dorothy Jean Beermann, age 89, of rural Dakota City, NE. left this earthly world to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 10, 2012 in Chandler, AZ. Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Pallbearers will be Chad Warne, Troy Sokolowski, Jason Jennings, Jeff Eddings, Greg Lair, Marcus Fischer and Craig Todd. Memorial funeral services will follow the graveside at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Dakota City with the Rev. Jeffrey Ungs officiating. Visitation will be from 7 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. Thursday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Dorothy was born in Sioux City, IA. on June 30, 1923 to Delsie H. (Frazier) and Harry V. Butterfield. She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Faith. Dorothy was a proud Cardinal fan attending school in South Sioux City, NE. and graduating in 1941. She attended nurses training in Sioux City, IA. one year prior to her marriage to Walter M. Beermann on June 14, 1942 at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Dakota City. Dorothy loved people and exhibited an extraordinary commitment to her family and community. She was active as an officer and member of numerous organizations some being PEO, OES, Nebraska Health Board, Nebraska Beef Council Auxiliary, Salem Memorial Scholarship Board, Sunday School Teacher, 4-H leader and judge at the Dakota County Fair, Farm Bureau activities and Dakota County Election Board. Dorothy was an avid sports fan. She was an original member of the Dakota County Tennis Buddies playing until the age of 85. She loved her South Sioux Cardinals and Nebraska Huskers. She also followed Iowa and Nebraska football, volleyball and basketball. In addition, she loved to bike, swim, roller skate and read often citing books. She and Walter were active in an anniversary group of close neighbors and friends. Dorothy is survived by her son, Dave B. Beermann of Dakota City; daughter, Barbara J. Cesarano (Ted) of Gilbert, AZ; Gary W. Beermann (Mickey) of Collinsville, OK; 13 grandchildren: Heather Warne (Chad) and Laura Sokolowski (Troy) of Aurora, CO; Sharon Beermann of Centennial, CO; Darci Fischer (Marcus), Sara Todd (Craig) of Omaha; Amy Wilmot of Sioux City, IA.; Geri Wilmot of Dakota City, NE; Robin Bierman (Jason Jennings) of Gilbert, AZ; Dawn Gaarder (Nate) of Dakota City; Emily Mathis of Flower Mound, TX; Kari Eddings (Jeff), Lindsey Lair (Greg) and Colby Beermann (Chia) of Collinsville, OK; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Wanda Beermann of Homer, NE. and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter M. Beermann; her son, James Richard Beermann (Jimmie Dick); her parents, brother James E. Butterfield. All that knew Dorothy believed she had an energetic and hardy spirit to life, family and friends. She was a precious gift to all that she touched. Dorothy was an inspiration expressing kind words to all those caring for her right to the final moments of her life here. Many will miss her, but many will carry on her spirit.
