James Jerome “Jim” Conley, 74 of South Sioux City passed away Sunday October 28, 2012 at his residence. Abiding by his request, cremation has taken place. No services will be held. Cards and condolences may be sent to his home address. Jim was born April 23, 1938, in Hubbard, Nebraska the son of John E. and Valeria M. (Rosenbach) Conley. The family moved to South Sioux City when Jim was four years old where he attended St. Michael Catholic School. Jim married Ellen Roby on October 5, 1959 at Elk Point, S.D. They made their home in South Sioux City and to this union three children were born, Penny, John and Paul. He was employed at Chesterman’s Bottling Company, Hurley Transfer Company and was manager of Williams Appliance in South Sioux City. He opened and operated Jim’s Used Cars and Appliances for thirty years. In 1988 his son Paul joined him in the business. The business closed in September of 2010 due to a fire. Jim spent his life enjoying buying and selling cars and appliances. He started at home in his garage until the business grew. He always had friends and customers stopping by for coffee and conversation. Jim also restored old cook stoves and a large pot belly stove from an old dance hall. Jim suffered a stroke in November of 2005 and has been in failing health since. Survivors include his wife Ellen of fifty-three years, a daughter Penny Donner of South Sioux City, a son Paul Conley and his wife Rachael of Sioux City, four grandchildren: Jonathan, David, Katie Donner and Patrick Conley all of Sioux City and South Sioux City area and four great grandchildren, a sister Jeannine and her husband Ed Herbst of Sioux City, sisters-in-law: Janice, and Sue Roby, a brother-in-law Glen Housh and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son John, his parents, brother Pat, sister Celestine, his in-laws Ronald Roby and Margery Hurley, sisters-in-law Shirley Colley, and Betty Housh, brother-in-law Ronald (Larry) Roby.
