Floyd E. Koskovich, 79 of South Sioux City passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 at a Sioux City Hospital. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City with the Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. The American Legion will have the flag presentation immediately following the service. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. The body then will be taken to First Lutheran Church and visitation will resume with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. Floyd was born March 7, 1933 in rural Hubbard, Nebraska the son of Alec and Mabel L. (Macklin) Koskovich. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. He attended rural school and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1950. He married Helen M. Herfel July 18, 1952 in First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. He served in the Fifth Army in Frankfurt Germany from April 9, 1953 to March 24, 1955. He was a driver for the Company Commander. He and his wife Helen lived in a German home a year and a half. He was employed in maintenance and helped build Sioux Quality Packing, that now has been torn down. He and his wife owned and operated Artistic Gifts and Toys in South Sioux City for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1998. Floyd became blind in 1965. Being blind never deterred him from doing what he wanted to do. He was a charter member of the Blind Support Group Lutheran Blind Mission and Hines Blind Center. Floyd enjoyed wood working. He and his son John built special pieces of furniture for the new library, First Lutheran Church and several business places. One of his specialties was clocks. He had seven that all played music in his home. He also enjoyed his model railroad and his talking computer. Floyd also enjoyed going to watch his son Scott race Late Model cars. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Foundation of First Lutheran Church, and American Legion #307. He was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Sertoma Club. He enjoyed making candy, especially divinity. His family was his pride and joy. He was an avid traveler. Survivors include his wife Helen of sixty years, two sons and wives: John and Barb of South Sioux City, Scott and Sue of Omaha, grandchildren: Kyle Koskovich, Erin (Brad) Kempfert, Paul and Jackie ( fiancé Jesse Herrera) Koskovich, great grandchildren: Jayden, Harper and Hailey, three brothers: Valley (Barb) Koskovich of Belfair, Washington, Archie (Aileen) Koskovich of San Gabriel, California, Harvey (Fay) Koskovich of Murrieta, California, sisters: Verna Schackelford of Los Angeles, California, Lois Harward of Sioux City, Delores (John) Homer of Ames, Iowa, two sisters-in-law: Jean and Maxine Koskovich. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Fern, Ray, Darrel and Marv, one sister: Mammie Haas, in-laws: Ray and Lois Herfel. Pallbearers will be Kyle Koskovich, Pat Engel, Larry Wilson, Bart Gotch, Milt Peters and Jack Bobier.
