Ella M. Fowler, 89, of South Sioux City passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at her residence. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Randall Knuth officiating .Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery, rural Homer, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. with Chaplain Ron Pietz officiating. Ella was born February 10, 1924 in Winnebago, Nebraska the daughter of William Lee and Mabel Etta (Rakes) Matney. She married Charles F. Fowler on March 1, 1940 in South Sioux City. He passed away on April 11, 1979 in Sioux City, Iowa. In her early years she was employed at Sioux City Battery and Schrader Produce. She loved making crafts, memorial flowers, camping and going to rummage sales. She was a great cook and loved cooking for her family. She was especially known for her meatloaf, fried bread and beans, fried chicken, potato salad, creampuffs and icebox cake. Her greatest treasure was the time she spent with her family and grandchildren. Ella was a kind and generous person giving her time and love to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. A special thank you goes out to the people who took care of her for the past three years: Her grandson Charles Wakefield, Her son and daughter-in-law: Richard and Donna Fowler and her caregiver: Judy Miner and a special thank you to Hospice Of Siouxland. Survivors include two sons and their wives: Charles and Marlene Fowler and Richard and Donna Fowler all of South Sioux City, a sister: Helen Bahrenfuss of South Sioux City, thirteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren and her special friend and caregiver Judy Miner. She was preceded in death by her parents , her husband, her daughter: Mary Lou Wakefield, two brothers: Lucian and Leland Matney, two sisters: Kathlyn Barclay and Viola Saltzman, a grandson: Danny Fowler ,a great grandson: Jonathan Fischer and a great granddaughter: Nevaha Fowler. Pallbearers will be Steve and Terry Fowler, Donald Wakefield, Steve VanLaningham, Randall Fowler and Raymond Fowler.
