Leona Mae Porter, 79, of South Sioux City entered into eternal rest on Sunday April 7, 2013 at a Sioux City Hospital. She was a loving soul who spent her life helping others. Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Riverside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tonya Scherrill officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 P.M. Leona was born September 14, 1933, in Carol, Nebraska the daughter of Otto and Rosie (Johns) Roost. She married William “Bill” A. Porter August 15, 1953 in Ponca, Nebraska and shared thirty-six years with him. Throughout her life she enjoyed square dancing and bowling with her husband, and worked at IBP/Tyson Foods for over twenty years. After retiring from IBP, Leona started a daycare in her home and spent another twenty years taking care of children. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters: Marcia (Paul) Brandt of Westfield, Iowa, Berniece (John) Damrau of Sioux City, Shirley (Mike) Borgheiinck of Sioux City, six step-children: Karen Tanner of Sac City, Iowa, William Jr. (Veronica) Porter of Brady, Nebraska, Noah (Sue) Porter of Sioux City, Iowa, Tiffery (Ted) Bonifas of St. Charles, Illinois, Jennifer Englehart (Don Wennekamp) of Pender, Nebraska, Merle “Butch” (Robin) Porter of Winter Springs Florida, twenty-seven grandchildren, forty-nine great grandchildren, seventeen great great grandchildren, two sisters: Doris Beckman of Laurel, Nebraska, Yvonne (Charles) Emmons of Hubbard, Nebraska, a brother Clifford (Nina) Roost of Dakota City, Nebraska and a special friend: Ray Severson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill on May 19, 1989 in Sioux City, three brothers: Louis, Dwayne and James Roost, two sisters: Theresa Seversen and Joyce Reckemmer, a nephew Melvin Daniel Engle and one grandson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dimitra Patton, Heather Roja and Laci Morris. Casket Bearers will be: Ken and Adam Damrau, Mike, Jim, Dan and Michael Porter.
