Eugenia M. “Jean” Runge 93 formerly of Dakota City, passed away Thursday May 16, 2013 in Hutchinson, Kansas. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Dakota City with Rev. Jeffrey Ungs officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Runge was born December 24, 1919 in Crandall, Georgia the daughter of James and Lillie (Henry) Petty. She graduated from Murray County High School in Chatsworth Georgia. She was employed as a seamstress in a men’s clothing factory. She later was employed for the Federal Government in Washington, DC from April of 1942 until the end of 1946. She married Earl E. Runge of Dakota City, Nebraska on August 24, 1946, at the North Minister Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC. The couple came back to Dakota City in 1947 where they farmed until 1988. She also was employed twenty four years for the Soil Conservation Service in Dakota County. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church rural Dakota City since 1953 and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was worthy matron in 1965. Her husband Earl died on March 23, 1997 in Dakota City. She moved to Hutchinson, Kansas in 1997 to live near her daughter. Survivors include her daughter and husband, Debby and Dale Henderson of Hutchinson, Kansas, a grandson Chance Henderson, a sister Libby Sexton of Bradeton, Florida, a brother Cecil Petty of Crandall, Georgia and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Bill, Glenn and Carlton and three sisters: Nena Clark, Lois Edgman and Lucille Raulstan. Pallbearers will be: Chance Henderson, Will Belfrage, Gene Robertson, Ron Bartels, Chuck Beermann and LeRoy Bray.
