Stanley Vassar Ring, 85 of South Sioux City went home to be with his Lord and savior after a short courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at a Sioux City Hospital. He was surrounded by his family. Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday at Glad Tidings Lighthouse Church in South Sioux City with the Rev. Jessie Brown officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Walthill, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. with the Rev. Richard Walker officiating at Glad Tidings Church. Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City is in charge of arrangements. Stanley was born April 15, 1928 in Walthill, Nebraska the son of Alvin M. and Truth R. (Vassar) Ring. Stanley married Lucille M. Mitchell on April 24, 1948 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. The couple just celebrated their 65th anniversary. He spent most of his entire life in Walthill and South Sioux City, Nebraska. Stanley loved playing guitar and writing music, hunting and running coon hounds, playing cards with his family, wheeling and dealing and selling cars. He loved attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events and birthday parties. He never missed any of them. Stanley never met a stranger. He was a member of the Glad Tidings Church and participated in the band. Stanley was survived by his wife: Lucille of South Sioux City, a son Rev. Michael Ring and his wife Linda (Clay) of Sioux City, a daughter Glenda Sue and her husband Ronald Haase of Dakota City, Nebraska, a sister Oma and her husband Ralph Rogers of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, two sisters-in-law: Elaine Palmer and Mary “Gus” Palmer, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, one great great grandson and his canine friend “Dog” He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Tyler Ring, two brothers: Don Ring and Rick Palmer, three stepbrothers: Bob, Tom and Bill Palmer, three sisters: Lastava Ring, Connie Young, Joan Andersen and a grandson, Baby Tyler. Stanley was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. Stanley will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Watson, Robert Rich and Hick Sailors. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Sean, Jason and Michael Ring, JR., Derrick Haase, Jeff Heitzman, and Corey Risner. and Michael Ring, Jr.
