Darrell L. Buck, 79 of Huxley, Iowa and formerly of South Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System Community Living Center in Des Moines, IA. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday at Community Of Christ Church with the Elder Chuck McCarthy officiating. Military Graveside services will be in the city cemetery at Lyons, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 4 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M. Mr. Buck was born March 16, 1934 in South Sioux City, NE to Charles (Lester) and Mildred Buck. He grew up in South Sioux City and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1953. He briefly attended Morningside and Briar Cliff Colleges in Sioux City. On June 25, 1955, he married Marian B. Evans of Revis, VA in Hartford N.C. while in the Navy, stationed at Norfolk, VA. To this union was born four children. After his discharge from the service, he lived in Virginia for a short time where he was a police officer with the Newport News Police Department. He returned to the South Sioux City/Sioux City area where he lived and raised a family for the majority of his life. He worked construction, Old Home Bakery and Terra Chemical. After leaving Terra Chemical, he returned to college and attended Western Iowa Tech, graduating with a degree in drafting before moving to Columbus, NE in 1988. There he worked for Behlen Manufacturing before he semi-retired in June of 2004. He held the office of Priest in the Community of Christ Church, and was a member of the Masonic Triangle Lodge #643, and the Shrine Clown Unit. He is survived by his wife Marian of Huxley, IA, one son Gary Buck (Julie) of Pleasant Hill, IA, three daughters Brenda Benson (Mark) and Pamela Tinta both of Cambridge, IA., and Mechelle Offerman(Keith) of South Sioux City, NE. Nine grandchildren, Shane Buck, Jaime Neer, Callie Buck, Michael, Brandon and Ashley Tinta, Michael Offerman, Shannon Cook and Aaron Benson., Two great granddaughters, and six great grandsons., two sisters, Trudi Malcom(Wilmer) of South Sioux City, NE and Dee McCarthy (Ed) of Columbus, NE and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother Verl.
