Lawrence G. Van Buskirk, 77 of South Sioux City passed away Saturday August 17, 2013 at a Sioux City Hospital. Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City with the Rev. Jose Mendoza and Rev. Daniel Wittrock officiating. Burial with military graveside services will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday with a Scriptural Service at 7:00 P.M. all at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Lawrence Gordon Van Buskirk was born August 24, 1935, in Kingsley, Iowa the son of Arlo B. and Josephine A. (Flammang) Van Buskirk. He graduated from Heelan High School in 1954. He served in the Army U.S. 101 Airborne Division from December 1957 until February 7, 1958 when he transferred to U.S. Army Reserves until February 2, 1962. He was employed as a carpet installer for various businesses before retiring. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the South Sioux City Eagles. He enjoyed baseball and was an avid Cubs fan. He loved to play golf and bowling. He liked to share his memory with his family and friends about the time he made a hole in one and also the time he bowled the 300 game. Survivors include his sisters: Arlo Jean Bossow and special friend Tiny Sexton of Sioux City, Mary Jo and her husband Vern Mayberry of Winnebago, NE, Carol E. and her husband Nick Simon of Sioux City, Barbara and her husband Corky Zastrow of South Sioux City, Joan Zastrow of South Sioux City, and Deanna Engel of Sioux City, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James, two sisters: Celene Brooks and Gerlyn Sue Van Buskirk, a brother-in-law Tom Zastrow, nephews: Scotty, Walter Jr, and Chad Zastrow, Ricky Brooks an infant nephew and an infant niece. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Wiffen, Dave Walsh, Jerry Balke and Ken Maaske. Casket Bearers will be Blake Simon, Jimmy Johnson, Mike Van Buskirk, Travis Van Buskirk, Jason Bobier, Adam Bobier, Cody Hattig and Austin Johnson.
