Merle R. Fowler, 76 of South Sioux City passed away Saturday, December 07, 2013 at a Sioux City Care Center. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Hope Lutheran Church with the Rev. Randal Knuth officiating. There will be a military flag presentation to follow. Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday at Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Merle was born August 7, 1937 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Merle F. and Letha M. (Owens) Fowler. He attended South Sioux City Schools. He was a Army and Airforce veteran. He played in the Country Sidewinders Band for many years. He married Pam J. Brown on May 14, 1966 in Sioux City. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, the Fraternal Order Of Eagles, American Legion Cownie Church Post #307 and the D.A.V. He was a great cook and loved to hunt. He was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was also a true animal lover and believed in Love Of God, Love Of Family and Love Of Country. Survivors include his wife Pam of South Sioux City, three sons: Merle Jr. of Springfield, Illinois, Richard and Tonya of Oakland, Illinois, Curtis of Beatrice, Nebraska, a daughter Letha and Ramiro “Sam” Ramirez of South Sioux City, a brother Virgil Fowler of South Sioux City, two sisters: Patty and Fritz Milner of Brooklyn, Iowa and Judy Miller of South Sioux City, eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Jerry, Marvin and Michael. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, great grandchildren and nephews.
