Wayne A. Zobel

Wayne A. Zobel, 88 of South Sioux City passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at a care center in Wayne, NE. Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Randal Knuth Officiating followed by military honors. Graveside services will be 1:30 P.M. Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Osmond, NE. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Wayne Alvin Zobel was born April 20, 1925 at Bazille Mills, Nebraska to Fred and Ella (Kuehl) Zobel. He was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church, Bazille Mills. Wayne graduated from Osmond High School in 1943 and entered the U.S. Navy on September 23, 1943. He was discharged in November of 1945. Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Irene Thomsen on December 30, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond, Nebraska. The couple lived in Norfolk, NE for sixteen years where Wayne worked at the Norfolk Daily News as a pressman. While living in Norfolk the couple were blessed with three children Diane, Roger and David. The family moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska in August of 1963 where Wayne was employed at the Sioux City Journal and later for Sears. He retired from Sears in 1987. He spent his retirement years enjoying his family. Wayne had a deep love for children and this was evident with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, the American Legion, Veterans Of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his three children: Diane (Lonnie) Ehrhardt of Wayne, NE, Roger (Bernie) Zobel of Grand Island, NE and David Zobel of Lincoln, NE, Grandchildren: Rob Zobel of Grand Island, NE, Jason (Kelli) Ehrhardt of Westminster, CO., Amy (Shawn) Comstock of Ralston, NE., Melissa Ehrhardt of Clarissa, MN., Jonathan (Jamie) Ehrhardt of Millard, NE., and Drew Zobel of Lincoln, NE. Great grandchildren: Taylor and Austin Ehrhardt, Teryse Wright, Brock and Reyse Zobel and Olivia Comstock. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Irene on October 25, 2005 in Sioux City, his parents Fred and Ella, two brothers: Glenn and Gordon on one sister Elaine Ellis. Pallbearers will be Rob Zobel, Jason and Kelli Ehrhardt, Amy and Melissa Ehrhardt, Jonathan and Jamie Ehrhardt and Drew Zobel. Memorials may be directed to the family for disposition later.
