Larry Gene Meister, 69 of Sioux City formerly of rural South Sioux City passed away Monday, December 23, 2013 at a Sioux City Hospital. Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church with the Rev. Randal Knuth officiating followed by military rites conducted by American Legion Post 307. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Friday at the church with a prayer service at 7 P.M. under the direction of Becker – Hunt Funeral Home. Larry was born November 13, 1944, in Sioux City the son of Clifford L. and Lucille M. (Klug) Meister. He graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee, Iowa and received an associate’s account degree from Briar Cliff University. He served in the Air Force from February 9, 1965 until October 8, 1968. He was a hobby farmer in rural Dakota County, enjoyed baking and was a self-employed photographer. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 307 in South Sioux City. He loved going to lunch with his cousins, his coffee Group at Karousel Restaurant and Hy-Vee. He loved to read and was presently writing a book entitled “Life And Times Of Adam Thomas Blaze”. Survivors include a sister Janett and her husband Roger Tripp of North Sioux City, a brother Harlan Meister of Cherokee, Iowa, several nieces and nephews, several great nephews, great nieces and one great great nephew. Larry was an Iowa tissue donor. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be Kevin and Bill Meister, Jim Thatcher, Mike Cook, Monte Ericksen and James Tripp. A lunch and time of remembering will be at Hope Lutheran Church following the committal service.
