Klemett E. Dean 79 of South Sioux City passed away Thursday December 26, 2013 at his residence in the loving care of his family and Hospice. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church with Rev. Randall Knuth officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Klemett Emory Dean, son of Emory and Bonnie (Keyser) Dean, was born November 29, 1934 near Walthill Nebraska, the eldest of six children. The family moved to South Sioux City in 1952. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1953. He married Nancy C. Berger of Dakota City on May 20, 1956. They had two children, Kim Carole Dean and Craig Klemett Dean. He was employed as a typesetter for the Sioux City Journal, in maintenance at the Dakota County Courthouse and at Girls, Inc. of Sioux City. Klemett was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, teaching many children along the way to fish, supplying them with rods and reels. He loved the Cornhuskers and could be found every Saturday in the fall cheering them on, oftentimes donning the corn hat, striped overalls and red Husker wig. In the spring, he could be found hunting mushrooms with his niece, Kristi Ebaugh, at their secret spots along the Missouri River. Survivors include his wife Nancy, a son Craig Klemett Dean of Sioux City, a daughter Kim Carole and her husband John Bateman of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, a brother Arlen and his wife Ruth Dean of South Sioux City, three sisters: Joanne Wasmund Hammack of South Sioux City, Erma Fitch of Ponca, Marilyn and her husband Robert Tallman of Jackson, Nebraska. He loved and was quietly proud of his three grandchildren, Whitney Dean of Sioux City, Jonathan (Ashley) Bateman of Gretna, Nebraska, Emily Bateman of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Conrad Dean, nephews: Kelly Wasmund and Michael Tallman. Pallbearers will be Kristi Ebaugh, Amy McCoy, Nicole Dean, Jason Berger, Lenny Tucker, Glen Sedivy, Ray Dean and Shawn Larison. Memorials may be directed to the family for distribution.
