: Lydia J. Saltsgiver, 79 of Dakota City passed away at her residence, after a lengthy illness, with her family by her side on Saturday January 25, 2014. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Carol Jean Stapleton officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday with the family present from 4 to 6 P.M. Lydia Jane was born December 23, 1934, in Macy, Nebraska the daughter of George E. and Alice S. (Collins) Church. She lived most of her life in the Siouxland area. She married Richard E. Saltsgiver July 8, 1951, in Bremerton, Washington. She was formerly employed at the Sunshine Grocery in South Sioux City and the South Sioux City Schools. She was a volunteer at Matney Colonial Manor for many years. Survivors include her husband, Richard, a son and his wife Steve and Margaret of Kingman, AZ, two daughters and their husbands: Laurie and Rodney Crater of Hospers, Iowa, Joni and Doug Greene of Dakota City, a brother Cecil and his wife Betty Church of Sioux City, a sister Leah and Rev. Harland Mincer of South Sioux City, eight grandchildren: Joe and Anne Saltsgiver, Rebecca, Kimberly and Alex Owen, Kyle, Randal and Allison Greene, and two great grandchildren Alina and Adalyn. She enjoyed playing cards, square dancing and ceramics. She will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother and grandma. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
