Maxine A. Rasmussen, 90 of South Sioux City passed away Monday February 10, 2014 at a Sioux City Hospital. Services will be 11 A.M. Saturday at ST. Lukes Lutheran Church in Emerson, Nebraska with the Rev. Gretchen Ratole officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery at Emerson. Visitation at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Maxine was born July 8, 1923, in Sioux City the daughter of Christian G. and Margaretha A. (Reibold) Ruschmann. She graduated from Emerson High School and attended N.B. T. Business College in Sioux City. She married Ralph M. Rasmussen May 7, 1944 in Hubbard, Nebraska. The couple farmed in the Emerson area from 1946 until 1989. They owned and operated Maxine’s Café in Wakefield until 1989. She also drove a school bus for Emerson-Hubbard several years. The couple moved to South Sioux City in 1989. She then was employed as a cook for the South Sioux City Schools and Day Care Centers in South Sioux City. She was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Emerson and the American Legion Auxiliary in Emerson. Survivors include three sons: Virgil and his wife Irene of Emerson, DeWayne and his special friend Carol of Dakota City, Gaylen and his wife Tracy of McCook Lake, SD, a daughter Diana and her husband Doug Sarubbi of Sacramento, CA, seven grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph August 12, 1997 in South Sioux City and three brothers. Pallbearers will be Chad Rasmussen, Dean Lieber, Jacob and Jeremy Rasmussen, Everett Hofmeister and Dan Schweers. Honorary pallbearers will be Troy Rasmussen, Taylor Hofmeister, Elijah and Rylan Rasmussen, Nolan and Bronsan Schweers, Kyler and Noelle Rasmussen.
