Leo H. Pigg, 87, of Homer, NE passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at a Sioux City Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Homer, NE with Vicar Dave Hawkins and Pastor Barb Hansen officiating with military honors conducted by the American Legion Buckland Post #97. Burial will be in the Omaha Valley Cemetery in Homer, NE. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer serviceat 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Homer, NE. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Leo was born on June 11, 1926 in Sioux City, IA to Emery O. and Angie Louise (Stewart) Pigg. He graduated from Homer High School. After graduation he served his country in the US Marines Corp during the Second World War, and became an expert marksman. He served with the Marine Corps Sixth Division in China and participated in the formal surrender of the Japanese in China. When he returned home he was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Jean Kautz on June 6, 1947 in Denison, IA. She preceded him in death on February 9, 2009 in Sioux City, IA. He owned and operated K & P Market in Homer for 22 years. Leo enjoyed hunting and fishing when he found the time. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball and watching the game in his later years. He was long time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Homer and was a proud member of the American Legion Buckland Post #97. He was a longtime member of the Homer Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chairman of the Homer Town Board. He is survived by his 4 children, son Larry (Jill) Pigg of Perris, CA; son John Pigg of Homer, NE; daughter Jean (Bob) Peters of Homer, NE; and son Joe Pigg and his husband Jeff Strine of Washington DC; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and beloved sister Lois Longwell of Homer, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 sister and 2 brothers.
