Thomas Jay Corrie (“Coz”) born July 27, 1949, passed away March 29, 2014 at his home in South Sioux City. The oldest of five children, Tom was the son of Joyce (Hegstrom) Corrie and the late Wallace Corrie. He grew up on the family farm five miles west of Anthon, Iowa. Coz attended school in Anthon, graduating from Anthon-Oto Community School in 1967. In school, he played football and was on the track team. He was class officer, manager for the sports teams, sang in the chorus and took part in the class play. Upon graduation, Coz left to further his education, returning to work the family farm with his brother, Doug, when their father died. The two later bought and ran the Anthon Lounge, where Coz loved to visit and have a beer with family and friends. After they sold the lounge, Coz farmed for a time with his friend, Rick Benson. He worked several other jobs before he went to work for Saber Industries, building forms for cell towers, eventually advancing to Quality Control Manager. He left Saber, moved to South Sioux City, NE and went to work for his good friend, Elzie Schoepf at Schoepf Manufacturing. He was good at welding and building horse equipment and he spent a great deal of time developing an environmentally friendly machine to burn tires, with low emissions. When he retired, he lived in South Sioux City with his brother, Doug. Coz enjoyed life. He loved spending time with family and friends, and you can “bet” that a “cool one” would always be included. Coz was an intelligent, big-hearted person, with an infectious laugh, remembered for taking his nieces and nephews on road trips, reading books, playing cards, sharing his political views, cooking and, you bet that he was always ready to back his favorite teams. Tom is survived by his mother, Joyce of Anthon, brothers: Doug Corrie of South Sioux City, Robert (Ellen) Corrie of Fairfax Station, VA, Steve (Lynn “Bitsy”) Corrie of Sioux City, sister Cindy (Matt) Curtin of Anthon, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Wallace. The body was cremated. Becker – Hunt Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. A celebration of Coz’s life will be Wednesday, April 2, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Anthon Community Center in Anthon, Iowa. The family will be present from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Coz’s name to the “Freedom Rock” project in Anthon, in care of the family.
