William "Bill" Shelly

William “Bill” Shelly, 77 of rural Dakota City passed away at his home Sunday, May 4, 2014. Visitation and a sharing of memories with the family will Wednesday from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home. Bill was born March 30, 1937, in Preston, Nebraska the son of Byron and Ellen (McBride) Shelly. He married Katherine J. Morgan on January 28, 1961. He graduated from Falls City High School and earned degrees in education from The University of Nebraska and the University of South Dakota. Bill began his thirty-four year teaching career in Norfolk, Nebraska and retired from the Sioux City Community School District in 1995. Bills’ unique sense of humor will be greatly missed by his wife, Kay, a son Bill (Lori) Shelly of Denver, Colorado, grandsons Morgan and Taylor Shelly also of Denver, and daughter Beth (Andy) Anderson of Sioux City. Memorials in his name have been established at the Sioux City Humane Society and St. Thomas food Bank.
