Norma Jeanne Carpenter, 75 of South Sioux City passed away Thursday May 29, 2014 at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City after a short battle with cancer. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with Pastor Miles Ruch officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday. Following the service at the cemetery there be lunch at Bev’s On The River. Norma Jeanne was born April 26, 1939, in Sioux City the daughter of Rev. Ernest and Mildred (Burgett) Bates. She graduated from High School. She married Richard Carpenter September 27, 1958. He died January 24, 1976. She was a long time resident of South Sioux City and retired from Interbake Foods in 1999. She was a great piano player and loved to play church hymns. She was known for her wit and sense of humor. Survivors include twin granddaughters: Ashley and Amber Smith, three brothers: Lyle, Jerold, and Dennis Bates, a sister and her husband, Carol and Wayne Des Champs. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter and her husband: Carol and Jeff Smith. Pallbearers will be Amber and Ashley Smith, Robin, Bryan and Jason Bates and Leigh Anne Chambers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis, Jerry and Lyle Bates, Wayne and Carol Des Champs.
