Owen Wilbur “Brownie” Lester, 91 of South Sioux City passed away Monday June 2, 2014 at a Sioux City Hospital. Services will be 2 P.M. Friday at Glad Tidings Church with Rev. Michael Ring officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the church with a prayer service at 7 P.M. Becker – Hunt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Owen “Brownie” was born Jun 1, 1923 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Owen Wright and Ethel Lillian (Davis) Lester. He graduated from high school. Brownie married Dorothy A. Rich March 6, 1943 in South Sioux City. He was a printer and minister. He was employed at the Sioux City Journal, Broyhill Company and the Dakota County Star. He was an assistant pastor at Gospel Lighthouse for over thirty years. He was a member of Glad Tidings Church in South Sioux City. Survivors include his wife Dorothy, a son Richard and his wife Sandy Lester of Sioux City, a daughter Renee Terry and her husband Jim Colyer of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Lowell, Rolland, Ernest and Robert and a sister Ruth Scherner. Pallbearers will be Matthew Colyer, Rick, Daniel and Joel Lester, Leon Scherner and Neal Evans.
