Wesley A. Simants, 78 of rural Dakota City passed away Saturday June 7, 2014 at his residence. Services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with Father Daniel Wittrock officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in South Sioux City. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday with the family present at 6 P.M. at the funeral home. Wesley was born April 17, 1936 in North Platte, Nebraska the son of Amos and Grace (Sommers) Simants. He graduated from high school. He retired from I.P.B. He married Catherine J. Tilford. She died November 5, 2000 in rural Dakota City. He then married Jennifer D. Beranek June 21, 2004 in Dakota City. Survivors include his wife Jennifer, two sons and their wives: William and Dawn Simants and Ronald and Denise Simants all of Omaha, two daughters and their husbands: Cathy and Gary Wales of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, Susan and Greg Baker of Dakota City, two brothers: Herb of Lincoln, NE, Alfred and his wife Martha of Cozad, NE, two sisters: Marilyn Real of Texas, Sandy and her husband Bill Boggs of Belle Fourche, SD, two step sons: Terry and his wife Pam Whelchell of Sioux Falls, SD, Todd Welchell of Granite Falls, Minnesota, ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Catherine, three brothers: James, Harold and Larry and a sister Mert. Pallbearers will be Bill, Ron and Tyler Simants, Greg Baker, Trafton and Chad Wales.
