Gene W. Robertson

Gene W. Robertson, 78 of South Sioux City died Saturday, June 21, 2014 at a Sioux City Hospital. A celebration of life services will be 7 P.M. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Dakota City with Rev. Duane Queen officiating. Following the service there will to be a time of fellowship with the family in the fellowship hall. A family graveside service will be at a later date. Becker – Hunt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A longtime South Sioux City business owner Gene Wendell Robertson went be with his Lord as second generation owner of Robertson Implement Company. Gene was born December 7, 1935, at home in Homer, Nebraska to Ray and Neva (Armour) Robertson. Gene was baptized October 30, 1943 and confirmed February 4, 1950 at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. He graduated from South Sioux City High School the class of 1954. He attended Wayne State College, Wayne, Nebraska and Midland College at Fremont, Nebraska. He was seven years old when his started working at the implement company with his dad, celebrating his 69th year in this home owned business, March 2014. He married Janet Hoier May 19, 1957 to this union a daughter Robin Ray and a son Ricky Lee was born. They divorced. He later married Patricia Harris December 24, 1998 in Sioux City. He participated in Omadi Lodge #5 A.F. & A.M., Abu Bekr Shrine Foot Patrol, Cornhusker Shrine Club, Pray Warrior and fifty-five years of South Sioux City Rotary Club, U.S. Paul Harris Club #131, joined in July of 1958. Gene was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, rural Dakota City. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia, son Rick (Judy) Robertson, daughter Robin (Michael) Bird all of Dakota City, step-children: Jill (Max) Schubauer of Gibbon, NE, LeAnn (Mike) Argyle, Texas, Craig (Sarah) Lieber of Mitchell, SD, grandchildren: Matthew, Andrew and Benjamin Bird, Katherine and Joseph Robertson, step-grandchildren: Taylor Schubauer, Cory Dixon, Zoey and Miles Miller and Aiden and Denaric Lieber, great grandchildren: Aubrey Mac and Jacob Matthew Bird, sisters: Joanne (Don) Kane of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Reba (Bruce) Menuey of South Sioux City, NE, brother: Rod (Sheryl) Robertson of Scottsdale, AZ, brother-in-law, Rev. Gary (Linda) Harris of South Sioux City, sister-in-law Janet (Jim) Heath of Cody, NE, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Geneva Joy Holton and grandniece Carly Nicole Koza. He enjoyed socializing with his family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, step grandchildren and special friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be directed to the South Sioux City Rotary Club, the American Cancer Society, Salem Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
