David S. Radican

July 21, 1969 — August 23, 2014

David A. Radican, 45, of Sergeant Bluff originally from Rhode Island passed away unexpectedly following a work related accident, on August 23, 2014, at a Sioux City Hospital, with his loving family and friends at his side.             Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff with Pastor Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Friday at the church  with a time of sharing at 7 P.M. There will be no visitation at Becker–Hunt Funeral Home.             Since David did not like to dress up and always was in jeans and T–Shirts or a Boston Red Sox Shirt, New England Patriots, or a car show shirt, please feel free to wear casual apparel or your favorite shirt in Dave’s honor.             David Alan Radican was born July 21, 1969 in Providence, Rhode Island the son of Thomas and Cynthia (Martin) Radican. He went to school at Cranston West in Cranston, Rhode Island. He was in the Culinary Arts at Cranston West and was involved in track. As a youngster growing up he did a lot of different jobs such as: delivered Providence Journal, painted houses at thirteen years of age, did odd jobs for the local neighbors and through out high school, he built houses. After high school, he worked in the local grocery store and then went onto work at Window Works. At this time he met his wife Sonja Shupe on an install for a family where she was a nanny, on February 12, 1989. Sonja and Dave moved to Iowa to start a new life in October of 1989. They married on June 12, 1993 in Sergeant Bluff and two boys were brought into this union, Mark and Michael. He then began work on October 15, 1989 at Overhead Door full time while he ran his own business, Radican Construction, Inc, part time nights and weekends from September 1996 to May 2006 when he went fulltime and full barrel into construction ever since until current. During the time he was fulltime he did some work for Paul Davis Restoration and up until his untimely accident, was an installer for Lowes.             David loved to be busy tinkering all the time. He loved his wife Sonja and they did a lot of things together. He loved family outings, camping, four wheeling, and anything outdoors. He also enjoyed tinkering with his model train set on cold, winter days or rainy days with Michael. David, Mark and Michael were just getting started the restoration of their 1967 Mustang.             David was Sonja’s best friend, great husband, loving father, brother, son, uncle and all around great guy who would do anything for anyone who needed help. He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-one years, Sonja (Shupe) Radican, his boys Mark from Sioux City, Michael at home, his mother Cynthia Radican of Oyens, Iowa, sister Susan (Chris) McDonald and kids: Maddy and Abby from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, twin brother John Radican of Oyens, Iowa and his girlfriend Nancy Pirdie of Westfield, Iowa, mother-in-law MaryAnn Shupe of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, two sisters-in-law: Sarah (Chris) Dolphin and kids Aubrey and Logan from Sioux City, Iowa, Shawn Harvey of Florida, nephew Rob Shupe from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, niece Annie and great-nephew Eric Garrison from South Sioux City, Nebraska and many more cousins, family, and friends.             Pallbearers will be John Radican, Roger Hassebroek, Roland Christiansen, David Brosamle, Kirk Kukuk and Kenneth Weiland.             We would love to give a special thanks to the Mercy Nurses, especially Ashley and ICU nurses/staff for all the loving care you gave Dave, his family and friends. Other thanks go out to the Iowa Donor Network and all the nurses while going through the process of donation, and especially MaryAnn O’Dell, who guided us in every step of the process.             He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Radican, and father-in-law, Robert C. Shupe.             David will always be in our hearts and minds and never forgotten. Remember Dave: “I will always love you more” Sonja.
