Robert L. (Bob) Dunn, 90, of South Sioux City died Thursday, December 18th at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City. Memorial services will be Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Pietz officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00A.M. until service time. Graveside military servies will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the City Cemetery in Stanton, Nebraska Born in 1924 in Wayne, Nebraska Bob was the son of Thomas W. Dunn and Chrissy Kersting Dunn Marinec. A graduate of Wayne High School in 1941 he later enlisted in the Army, serving as an infantryman in the Pacific during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters for his service. Bob also served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1952 he married Lois M. Dubbel of Stanton, NE. They lived in Stanton where Bob worked for the Rural Electric Association (REA). In 1962 he joined Consumers Public Power District (later Nebraska Public Power District) and worked first in Hartington and then South Sioux City as a lineman and local manager, retiring in 1985. Bob and Lois had two children, Merrily and Tom. Bob was a family man and a friend to many. He loved talking about his time in the military, a good game of cribbage and a can or two of Miller High Life. He was proud of his membership in the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). Few things made him happier than time with friends spent telling lots of stories. A lifelong Nebraskan, he was a loyal follower of the Huskers. He was proceed in death by his wife, his son, Thomas W. Dunn, his sisters, Erma Jean (Jane) Dunn Saloum and Joyce Yvonne (Vonnie) Dunn Ellis and his son-in-law, Edward Grandpre’. He is survived by his daughter, Merrily Dunn and her fiancé, Gregg Nagle and his granddaughters, Hannah and Claire Dunn-Grandpre’, all of Athens, GA. His family is extremely grateful for the loving care he received from the staff at the Regency Square Care Center and Hospice of Siouxland. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
