Dorothy Mae Keyser

August 15, 1925 — December 22, 2014

Dorothy Mae Keyser, 89, formerly of South Sioux City died on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion, NE.           Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Dakota City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gina Gile officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:30 P.M. at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City with a prayer service at 5:30 P.M.           Dorothy was born August 15, 1925 in Bancroft, NE, the daughter of Frank W. and Alta M. (Sappingfield) Copple. She graduated from Walthill, NE High School in 1942. Dorothy married Melvin J. Keyser on November 13, 1942 in Ponca, NE. She was employed as a cook for the Dakota City Schools for ten years; later working at Kentucky Fried Chicken for four years and Dura Pac for two years.           Dorothy was a member of the Dakota City United Methodist Church. She had been active in the church, serving on various committees and helping at social events. She was a volunteer Kindergarten “Grandma” at EN Swett Elementary School for approximately 15 years where she loved and was loved by many eager 5-year olds. Dorothy loved to cook and those around her loved to eat.           Survivors include two daughters and their husbands: Linda and Larry Reckling of Bellevue, Barb and Roy Strong of Dakota City; two sons and their wives: Jim and Cheryl Keyser of Lincoln, Kevin and Cathy Keyser of Parker, Colorado; a brother, Jack of Westminster, Colorado, 12 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren,16 great-grandchildren, 3 step great grand children,1 great-great-grandchild, and 3 step great great grandchildren.           Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvin, May 12, 1994, and two brothers: Eddie and Keith Copple.           Pallbearers will be grandchildren.           In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Dakota City United Methodist Church, those directed to the family will be given to the E.N. Swett School Library.
