Ronald "Squirt" Eriksen

Ronald “Squirt” Eriksen, 85 of rural Hubbard, Nebraska passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at a South Sioux City Care Center. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Homer. Burial with grave side military services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City.  Visitation will be at the church from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 P.M.  Becker – Hunt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Ronald was born August 19, 1929 in Homer, Nebraska the son of Louis W. and Karen (Jensen) Eriksen. His mother died when he was six months old and his aunt and uncle, Louis and Alma Wilkins raised him along with their daughter Vera June. Growing up and later in life Ron and Vera June considered each other as brother and sister. Ronald  graduated from Homer High School in in 1947. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving two years in Germany. He married Pauline A. Barnett December 31, 1954 in LeMars, Iowa. The couple farmed in rural Hubbard retiring in 2009. Ronald was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council. He was a member of the Homer American Legion Buckland Post 97.  Squirt was a Cub Scout Leader,  4-H Leader for nineteen years, served on the Homer School Board for twenty-five years, served on the Dakota County Fair Board for thirty-nine years and drove a school bus for twenty-six years. Squirt is survived by his wife Pauline of rural Hubbard, two sons: Terry Eriksen of Phoenix, AZ,  Kurt and his wife Melanie Eriksen of rural Hubbard, NE, a brother John Eriksen of  Blair, Nebraska, a sister Delores Heck of South Dakota, two grandchildren, Alyssa Eriksen and her fiancée Nick Brodersen of Lincoln, Nebraska and Erika Eriksen of rural Hubbard. Squirt was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Darrel Eriksen and his sister Vera June “Wilkins” Porter. Casket bearers will be: Steve Eriksen, Rob and Brent Porter, Dick McNear, Lanny and Travis Bodlak. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Homer American Legion.
