Daryle Minnie Bensen

Daryle Minnie Bensen, 94 of Ponca, Nebraska passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015, at the Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek, Nebraska. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Maskell, Nebraska with the Vicar Chad Beckius  officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Maskell, Nebraska. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.  Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M. at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M.  Daryle was born September 7. 1920,  on a farm near Maskell, Nebraska, the daughter of Raymond and Gladys (Orr) Nielsen. She went to Tara Hill Country School and graduated from Maskell High School in 1939. She  was  baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Maskell, Nebraska in 1941. She married Oren Elmo Bensen on April 16, 1941 in Zion Lutheran Church in Maskell, Nebraska and they had five children: VaLoy, Walden, Tyrone, Conrad and Roxane. The couple farmed in the Maskell area for three years. She was a resident of South Sioux City from 1946 to 1980. She managed the South Sioux City School kitchens for ten years. She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City for thirty-four years. She was Chairman of the Women’s ELCA, a Bible School teacher, and a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. She was active in all of South Sioux City school activities for twenty years. She then moved to Ponca, Nebraska and she and son Wally ran the Dixie Drive Inn for five years. She was a active member in Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, chairman of the  Women’s ELCA, teaching Bible School, and served on the Church Council and a member of the Ladies Aide. She was a member of the American Legion Auxilary in Ponca. Survivors include three sons and their wives: Walden and Linda of Maskell, NE, Tyrone and Alieta of  Stockton, MO, Conrad and Connie Ireton, IA, a daughter Roxane and her husband Roger Nelson of Battle Creek NE, a sister-in-law Dorathe  Nielsen of LeMars, IA, three sisters: Darlene Burton on Yakma, WA, Marilyn (Earl) Newman of Primghar, IA, Janice (Ray) White of Winchester, VA, thirteen grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, several step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oren October 7, 1969, a daughter VaLoy Lewon,  a granddaughter Tabetha, a brother Doyle and a sister Yvonne and several in-laws.
