Jung Ja “J.J.” Mathenia, 73 of South Sioux City passed away Thursday May 14, 2015 at residence from natural causes. Services will be 3:30 P).M. Saturday at Becker – Hunt funeral Home with the Rev. Kelly Pedersen officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:30 until service time at the funeral home. J.J. was born June 24, 1941 in Seoul, Korea. She came to the United States in 1965 living in Coppers Cove, Texas. She moved to South Sioux City in in 1972. She was employed as a dental hygienist from 1972 until 1997. She then went to chef’s school and after graduation opened her own catering service in South Sioux City until 2010. She also did Home Interior for decades in the Siouxland area. She was active in the Korean Methodist Church and served as treasurer. She enjoyed square dancing, loved to cook, gardening, her flower beds and the trees. She also enjoyed antiquing, nature and was an extremely independent person. Survivors include a daughter Winona Toni Thompson and her husband Timothy of Klammath Falls, Oregon, two grandchildren: Van and Tia Thompson. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes’s Association.
