Doris E. Jeffrey 89, of Allen, Nebraska passed from this life on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Embassy Nursing Home in Sgt Bluff, Iowa under the care of Hospice of Siouxland. A celebration of life service will be Saturday June 6, at the First Lutheran Church in Allen, Nebraska with Pastor Sara Ruch officiating. Becker – Hunt Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Doris was born January 17, 1926, in Wayne, Nebraska the daughter of John W. and Elva V. (Beeks) Barnes. Sher attended Wayne Normal College and went on to teach at several country schools. Doris married Clarence (Bud) Jeffrey February 21, 1947 and they resided in rural Allen before moving to town in 1962. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Wakefield Hospital for several years. The couple enjoyed traveling including many trips to Florida with grandchildren to Disney World and many other Florida attractions. Bud and Doris spent three winters in Florida where they also celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Doris was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Allen for many years and enjoyed singing in the choir and upon occasion played the organ. She spent many enjoyable years babysitting for families that became her extended family. Doris loved to sew and made countless quilts for all of her families. She was known as “Sunshine” to many and will be remembered for her sweet and gentle way and beautiful smile. Survivors include three daughters: Caryl (Tom) Reed of Dakota City, Janet Brodersen of Spring Valley, Ohio, Sandra (Bill Miller) Monson of Coatsville, Indiana, son-in-law, Dan Keenan of Kansas City, Kansas, eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren in addition to many others that called her grandma. Doris was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Bud, July 17, 2004 in Emerson, Nebraska, daughters: Sharon Kay Jeffrey and Glenda Keenan, sisters: Reva Tribble and Lueen Townsend. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Siouxland or First Lutheran Church in Allen, Nebraska.
