Jean Claxton, 90 of South Sioux City passed away Thursday June 11, 2015 at a Sioux City Care Center. Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Schoenherr officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. ... Jean was born July 1, 1924, in Magnet, Nebraska the daughter of George B. and Florence A. (De Lozier) Crellin. She graduated from Madrid, Nebraska High School. She married Gene Claxton January 26, 1947 in Santa Anna, California. The couple moved from California to South Sioux City in 1959 and purchased, owned and operated the A & W Drive In in South Sioux City for twenty years. She cherished the years of contact with fine young people employed there. They are still her friends. When the A & W closed for the winter months, she worked for the Corner Store and Kalins Women’s Wear in South Sioux City. In retirement a rewarding hobby was painting with oils and other mediums. She loved watching the Lady Cardinals…..”big fan” and also the Nebraska Corn Huskers. Survivors include a daughter Susan Berggren of South Sioux City, a grandson Edward Scott Berggren of South Sioux City and a sister Wanda Okamota of Southern, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, July 26, 2002, a son-in-law Rich Berggren two brothers: Rev. Roland and Robert Crellin and two sisters: Thelma Orr and Gloria Crellin.
