Iffat Ali, 76, of South Sioux City, NE, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at a Sioux City Hospital. Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday in the Dakota City Cemetery under the direction of Becker- Hunt Funeral Home. Iffat was born on August 11, 1939 in Hyderabad, India, the daughter of Sheikh Barkat Ali and Rashida Khanum. She grew up in Hyderabad, India where her father was a Professor of Mathematics at Osmania University. She received Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from Osmania University in Hyderabad, India and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in General Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, UK. She served as a Surgical Specialist with the rank of Major in the Pakistan Army, her service included the Pakistan Civil War in 1971. She married Hashmat Ali in Pakistan and then relocated to Canada. She worked in New Brunswick for two years before moving to the US. Her first job in the US was as the sole practitioner at the Oxford Medical Center in Oxford, NE, where she worked for twelve years. She then worked at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, and after practiced medicine at Indian Health Service hospitals in Winnebago and Sioux reservations in Nebraska, Wisconsin, and South Dakota. She retired from the Winnebago IHS Hospital in 2001. She practiced medicine and surgery in India, Pakistan, England, Scotland, and Canada, and practiced medicine in the US. Iffat loved medicine and continued to practice part-time in her retirement. She loved helping and taking care of people both inside and outside of the hospital. She had strong faith and loved her family, keeping everyone in her family and extended family connected with frequent phone calls. Survivors include her husband, Hashmat Ali of South Sioux City; daughter, Ayesha Ali of South Sioux City, son-in-law Shane Murphy, of Omaha, NE; sisters Akhtar Siddiqui, of Chicago, IL, Mussarat Siddiqui, of Toronto, CA, and brother, Ansar Ali, of London, UK; and many nieces and nephews. Iffat was preceded in death by her parents, Sheikh Barkat Ali and Rashida Khanum; brothers, Shefqat, Basharat, Tabarak, Shaukat, and Nusrat Ali; and sister, Raffat Afzal.
