Hans H. Jessen

April 24, 1923 — December 12, 2015

   Hans H. Jessen 92 of Homer, NE passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 at his residence.    Services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Homer, NE with Rev. Anna Speiser and his grandson Vicar Curt Wingert officiating.  There will be a lunch immediately following the service at the church. Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. in Logan Park Cemetery, in Sioux City, IA. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the church with a prayer service at 7 P.M..  Becker – Hunt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.    Hans was born April 24, 1923, in rural Jackson, NE the son of David and Bertha A. (Hansen) Jessen. His mother passed away in 1927, and he was raised by Beck and Helga Nelsen. He married the love of his life Marian M. Nelsen on December 27, 1944 in Homer, Nebraska. He farmed in the Homer area and also owned and operated Homer Transfer until 1977  when he retired due to an accidental injury. The couple then moved into Homer. In retirement he raised Belgians under the name of Spring Valley Belgians.    He was proud of his children’s accomplishments. When he received the title of Grandpa, he enjoyed taking the grandchildren to cut down their Christmas trees.  At Halloween he loaded them up in the hayrack and team to go trick or treating or take them for a wiener roast. In the winter he would hitch up the team to the bobsled and take the grandchildren and others for rides.    Hans believed in 4-H and was a big supporter and was proud he had a four generation 4-H family. He would go to five county fairs a year enjoying seeing the kids make the best better.    He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Mason Lodge and Eastern Star.    Survivors include his wife Marian, of Homer,  two sons: Allen and his wife Connie Jessen of Norfolk, NE, Larry Jessen of Homer, a daughter Sharen and her husband Raymond Wingert of Jackson, NE, a sister Betty Kelly of Homer, NE,  two step-brothers: Gail and Harry a step-sister: Katherine, six grandchildren: Renee (Rhett) McClure, Paul (Meredith) Jessen, Brian Wingert, Amy (Kevin) Crosgrove, Curt (Erin) Wingert, Amanda Jessen and fourteen great grandchildren.    He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Mary Louise Jessen, a brother Alfred Jessen, and three sisters: Edith Madison, Elsie Jessen and Margaret Hunter.    Pallbearers will be: Leon, Randy, and Dane Jessen, Les Albrecht, David Warren, Scott Nelsen and Paul Madison.     Hans Jessen was a caring loving person who created many memories for all to cherish.
