Kenneth Jesse “Kenny” Munhofen, 90 of South Sioux City was escorted to heaven by our Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from a Sioux City Hospital. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the Dakota City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gina Gile officiating. Burial with military graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with the family present at 6 P.M. Kenny was born June 25, 1925 in South Sioux City the son of Jesse A. “Hap” and Mary A. (Moore) Munhofen. He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. He married Shirley Jean Burris November 11, 1947 in Sioux City. Kenny was employed at Aalf’s Manufacturing and Cudahy’s Packing Plant. He retired from Western States Manufacturing Auto Parts. He served as a deacon at the South Sioux City First Southern Baptist Church in South Sioux City. The couple was attending the Dakota City United Methodist Church. Kenny was the initiator of the “quiet train zone” in South Sioux City. Survivors include his wife Shirley, a son Lawrance and his wife Linda Munhofen of South Sioux City, a daughter Kendra and her husband Charles Cigard of Springfield, Missouri, two foster daughters: Vicky (Paul) Greening of Kingman, AZ., Toby Varvais of South Sioux City, a daughter-in-law Sherry Munhofen, two brothers: Donald (Donna Rae) Munhofen of Sloan, Iowa, Raymond Munhofen of Oklahoma City, OK, a sister Eleanor Twiford of South Sioux City, eleven grandchildren: Troy Munhofen, Tracy (Kevin) Likes, Jennifer (Tim) Bulizak, Kristy (Rich) Sindt, Robert Cigard, Tyler Cigard, Rachel (P.J.) Justice, Laura (Brandon) Coffman, James (Reno) Varvais, Timothy (Kristen) Varvais, Wendy Nebbia, twenty-one great grandchildren: Krystopher, Easton, Bryce, Zack, Lewis, Alexa, Brittany, Bentleigh, Audrey, Ava, Kaden, Zoe, Caleb, Tate, Teagan, Brylee, Kennedi, Austin, James, Nicholas, Brianna and his beloved cat “Sam”. Kenny enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting with his loyal dog Duke, most of all he loved the Nebraska Huskers. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son John William Munhofen, and three sisters: an infant Irene and Thelma and Dorothy In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for distribution later.
