Fern M. Fredericksen, 92 formerly of rural Emerson passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 in an Omaha, Nebraska Care Center. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson with the Rev. Gretchen Ritola and Vicar Rebecca Truland officiating. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery, Emerson, Nebraska. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Becker – Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City is in charge of the arrangements. Fern Marie Fredericksen was born on a farm near Emerson on October 30, 1923 to Detlef and Meta Barg, and lived most of her life in the Emerson area. She had six sisters and one brother. On October 31, 1943 she married Lloyd Fredericksen and they began married life in the Palace Hotel in Pender, Nebraska untill they could afford to rent a farm west of Pender. Their first three children, Judy, David and Duane were born to them while they lived by Pender. In 1955 the decided they had enough saved up to buy a farm east of Emerson, and their last child, Gary was born to them while they lived there. They farmed there for many years and ran a Trucking and Corn Shelling business. When Lloyd died in 1974, Fern moved into the house they had purchased in Emerson and remained there for server years. She moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 2009. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson. Survivors include a son Gary of Omaha, a daughter Judy and her husband Dale Priest of Omaha, a sister Hazel, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter Lena Fredericksen. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons: David and Duane, five sisters: Rose, Violet, Lillian, Alice and Edith.
