Darlene M. Mercer, 86 of Homer, Nebraska passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at a Sioux City Hospital. Services will be 10:30 A. M. Monday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Gina Gile officiating. Burial will be in the Omaha Valley Cemetery, rural Homer, Nebraska. Following the service at the cemetery there will be a lunch and time of fellowship with the family at the Homer American Legion Hall. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Darlene May Mercer was born February 3, 1930, in Sioux City the daughter of Norman D. and Bessie H. (Copple) Loomis. She graduated from East High School in Sioux City. She married Robert L. Mercer December 24, 1950 in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Survivors include four daughters: Brenda and her husband James Hough of Dakota Dunes, SD, Susan and her husband Mark Reed of LeMars, IA, Julie and her husband Brian Ferris of South Sioux City, NE, Roberta Boston of Homer, NE a brother Russell Loomis of Sergeant Bluff, IA, thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert August 23, 2011, and two sisters: Betty Jean Hansen and Dorothy Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Staci Luebbert, Stephani Buhman, Brooke Kelly, Kassidee and Kelsey Hightree and Haley Hackney. Casket bearers will be her grandsons: Steve Hough, Curtis Kelly, Zach Reed, Trevor Hightree, Jay and Rob Tompkins and Koleton Boston.
