William "Bill" F. Wiseman

February 13, 1944 — October 24, 2016

William (Bill) Wiseman, 72, of rural Homer died on Monday, October 24, 2016 at his home. Services will be Saturday, October 29 at 10:00 AM at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE with Pastor Gretchen Ritola officiating. Visitation with the family present will be at the church on Friday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Military rites will be at Omaha Valley Cemetery. Bill was born in the Homer Hospital on Feb. 13, 1944, son of William R. and Mary (Shatka) Wiseman. He graduated from Homer High School in 1962. In November of 1962, he joined the US Navy and served in Taiwan, Viet Nam, and on the USS Rehoboth which mapped the coastal waters of Viet Nam. Upon his return home in 1967, he was employed at Zenith Co. where he met Patricia Grohs and they were married on June 21, 1969. He worked at IBP in maintenance, Sioux City Brick and Tile, and spent 26 years at Cloverleaf before retiring. He was active in Boy Scouts as a scout, a scout leader, and with the Legion Scout of the Year award committee. He also was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran and served on Church Council and helped with repairing things at the church when needed. He was a 50 year member of Homer American Legion Post 97 and served as Commander and Firing Squad Leader. The last few years, he was involved with starting American Legion Riders and Sons of the American Legion at Post 97. He also served on County, District 3 (Commander for 2 terms)., and Department positions. He was a Hospice Volunteer for their Vets to Vets program and loved to visit with vets about their service and his. His interests were hunting, fishing, western books and music, motorcycles, and old cars. He was always busy on the farm with building or repairing something. He is survived by wife Pat, daughter Beth Heath (Bill Thatcher), sons Bill (Vanessa) and Jesse, granddaughter TSGT Paula (TSGT Marke) St. Hill, grandsons Shane Nassar, Russell Heath, William F. (Emily) Wiseman, and Christopher Wiseman, and great-grandchildren CJ and Myla, brothers Richard ( Shirley) Wiseman, Ed (Eva) Wiseman, Robert (Tracey) Wiseman, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jean (Ed) Trudell, Ina (Jack) Sevier, and Cinda (Jerry) Haralson.
