Leona "Red" DeHarty

March 6, 1924 — December 6, 2016

    Leona B. “Red” DeHarty, 92 of South Sioux City passed away Tuesday December 6, 2016 at a South Sioux City Care Center.     Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Awe, pastor of Hope Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Midway Cemetery, Battle Creek, Iowa. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 P.M.     Leona Bertha “Red” DeHarty was born March 6, 1924 in Pierson, Iowa the daughter of Christian H. and Pauline M. (Jansen) Broderson. Her family moved to rural Sioux City and she attended school in Leeds. She married Cecil DeHarty.     She was employed at Inter Bake Foods for many years.      Leona was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Ladies Aide and L.W.M.L. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in South Sioux City and the Golden Age Club at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City.      Red loved to dance, bowl and visit friends at Nursing Homes. She loved to have a good time.     Survivors include two sons: Emmett and his wife Lina DeHarty and Curtis DeHarty all of Sioux City, one grandson, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.    Leona was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Eldora and three brothers: Wilber, Oscar and Harold.    In lieu of flowers the family requests that you consider giving a memorial to Hospice of Siouxland in memory of Leona.
