Ruth Ann Fowler

Ruth Ann Fowler, 92 of South Sioux City passed away on Christmas Eve December 24, 2016 at the Regency Care Center in South Sioux City.          Services will be 11 A.M. Wednesday at Becker – Hunt - Funeral Home with Pastor Karen Handke officiating (who was also a 1st grade student of Ruth’s). Visitation will be one-half hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa.           Ruth was born September 10, 1924 and grew up on a farm east if of Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School. She then attended and graduated from the School of Cosmetology in Sioux City.   She later decided to attend Wayne State Teachers College receiving her two year certificate and finishing a four year degree in Education at Morningside College. During this time she was invited to sing with the Sioux City Symphony at Grandview Park. Ruth went on to teach first grade at Grant Center, Mapleton and Smithland for twenty five years where she also taught her daughter and several nephews. She met and married Harold Fowler August 9, 1947 and they were married sixty-two years. They had one daughter Linda (Fowler) Jensen. Ruth and Harold were long time members of the Smithland United Methodist Church, Legion/Auxiliary and Shriners/Eastern Star. Ruth enjoyed traveling, golfing, crafts, book Club, sewing and flowers in her earlier years. She always enjoyed hearing what was going on in the lives of her granddaughter and three great-granddaughters of whom she was very proud.           While in the Care Center she and her daughter went on many weekly care rides around the Siouxland area and would sing all their favorite songs. Ruth appreciated having a son-in-law who was always considerate and helpful. She also enjoyed the many visits Zoey, the family dog, who always wanted to set on her lap or lay beside her in bed.           Survivors include her daughter Linda (Ron) Jensen of South Sioux City, a granddaughter Shawn (Curt) Mischnick and three great granddaughters: Sydney, Taylor and Lauren of Lincoln, along with several nieces and nephews.           Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Guy and Martha Scott, a sister Ethlyn Kolbe, her brother Clair Scott and her husband Harold Fowler.          A special note of Thanks to the staff at Regency Square Care Center and Dr. Folchert for their care and compassion.
