G. Elmer Nieman

   G. Elmer Nieman 93 of Winnebago, Nebraska passed away surrounded by family at his granddaughter’s home in Winnebago Sunday, January 15, 2017.    Services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday at the Homer United Methodist Church with Rev. Carole Jean Stapleton officiating. Burial will be in the Omaha Valley Cemetery rural Homer. Burial with military graveside services by the American Legion Post 97 will be in the Omaha Valley Cemetery. There will be a gathering with and a lunch at the Homer American Legion Hall in Homer following the service at the cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home.   George Elmer Nieman was born July 15, 1923 in Winnebago the son of John F. and Gladys (Van Houten) Nieman.  He was an Army Veteran.    He worked on the family farm, was a Northrup King Dealer and hauled livestock for area farmers. He was a F.F.A. instructor and did custom work for farmers. He later owned and operated Nieman Towing Service.    He was a member of the Winnebago and Walthill Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed camping and gardening.   Survivors include two brothers: Merle Nieman of Winnebago and Chet Nieman of Dakota City, a sister Bernice Gesch of Amarillo, Texas, three grandchildren: Todd Walker, Autumn Nieman, Jeremiah Nieman thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.    He was preceded in death by his parents his wife Lida March 29, 2013, a son Kenneth, two brothers: Marvin and Albert, a sister Beverly Harris and one granddaughter Brandy.   Honorary pallbearers will be: Jim Madison, Gene Stout, R.J. Norris, Marty Nieman and Vincent Walker. Pallbearers will be Rod Quint, Rod Nieman, Keithen Walker, Jeremiah Nieman, Royce White Bear and Benjamin St. Cyr.
