Ellen M. Shulenberger-Furlich, 92, of South Sioux City passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at a South Sioux City Care Center. Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City with the Rev. David Fulton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P. M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with the family present at 4 P.M. and a Scriptural Wake Service at 4:30 P.M. Ellen was born June 19, 1924 in Battle Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Jane (Hayward) Stapleton. She grew up and received her education in Battle Creek, graduating from Battle Creek High School. She married John M. Schulenberger April 18, 1953 in Dakota City. He passed away August 28, 1983 in Sioux City. Ellen was united in marriage to Michael G. Furlich on July 8, 1995 in South Sioux City. The couple made their home in South Sioux City. Ellen was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, playing golf, bowling, and doing cross word puzzles. She was also an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. She was preceded in death by her parents: her first Husband John Schulenberger, a brother Joseph Stapleton, and four sisters: Mary Rice, Jane Peters, Lenora Seuntjens, and Rose Hein. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Michael, a step-daughter, Catherine Furlich and her husband Pat Hogan of Torrance, CA, , a step-daughter Barb Furlich of Sioux City, a step son, Douglas and his wife Debra Furlich of Lawton, Iowa a sister-in-law Dorothy Wright, her nephews: Jim Rice, John Rice, Marc Hein, Michael Hein and Pat Stapleton, a niece Pamela (Hein) Eisfelder, four step grandchildren, one step great granddaughter, several great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Douglas Furlich, Michael Hein, Marc Hein, Pat Hogan, Travis Mattes and Adam Furlich.
