George E. Quint III

October 21, 1945 — April 14, 2017

   George E. “Sonny” Quint III, 71 of South Sioux City passed away Friday April 14, 2017 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.     Services will be 1 P.M. Thursday in the Shrine Auditorium, Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, 820 Nebraska Street with the Abu Bekr Shrine Chaplain Neil L. Peck C.P.L.S. officiating and Mark Harman presiding the Masonic Rite. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home.     George Elmer Quin, III was born October 21, 1945 in Sioux City the son of George and Elma I. (Nicolls) Quint, Jr. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1963. He married Karon Kay Smith November 20, 1964.      George “Sonny” started, owned and operated South Sioux City Towing for thirty-five years. He handed the business down to his son Rod who has taken over the business and continues the operation.      Sonny is a Mason and a member of Omadi Lodge #5. Sonny was a former member of Masonic Landmark Lodge 103, the York Rite, Scottish Rite and the Abu Bekr Shrine. He was an active member of the Shrine and served as Chief of Staff, Parade Marshall, Potentate of the Ritualistic Divan and belonged to many units. He sponsored many children to the Shrine Hospital,     Sonny loved coaching Little League Softball and Baseball, camping and spending winters in Texas. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandkids and friends.    George is survived by two sons: George R. “Rod” and his wife Sheryl Quint of South Sioux City, Todd W. Quint of South Sioux City, two grandchildren: George A. “Alex” Quint and Peyton J. Quint, his fiancée Dianna Maka, two sisters: Carol Ann Baker of South Sioux City, Elva Nottleman of South Sioux City and many nieces and nephews.    He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Karon on March 5, 2009, and two sisters: Georgia Vakulskas and Lida Nieman.   Pallbearers will be: Alan Fagan, Troy Baker, Sheldon Menin, Corey Jaqua, Jim Tarno and Porter Hazard.
