Mary E. Blessing

April 7, 1925 — June 21, 2017

Mary E. Blessing, 92 of Wakefield formerly of South Sioux City died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Wakefield Health Care Center. Services for Mary E. Blessing will be 10:30 a.m. Monday June 26, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, South Sioux City with Reverend Douglas Dill officiating. Visitation will be Sunday June 25, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Becker Hunt Funeral Home. Mary was born April 7, 1925 in Chinook, Washington the daughter of John V. and Lida V. (Shipman) Doyle. She attended school at Ilwaco High School. She married Harold J. Blessing on September 9, 1942 in Ilwaco, Washington. The couple moved to Jackson NE in the summer of 1943 where they farmed and raised dairy cattle with her husband. In 1958 they moved to South Sioux City with their two children, Sheron and Chuck. Mary was working at Nuway Drug in South Sioux when she had her third child, Mike. Later in Life she worked at the Ben Franklin store and ended her career working for the school system serving lunches until she was in her 70’s, she loved being around the children and would knit stocking hats for the children that would come to school without them. Mary was into arts and crafts, reading and video game poker. Every member of the family has a stocking hat, sweater or afghan, probably all three. Mary loved to read and was a member of the Harlequin book club with quite an impressive collection. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary is survived by two sons, Charles W. (Kathye) Blessing of Sacramento, CA, and Michael J (Kelly) Blessing of Omaha, one son in-law Marvin Larson of South Sioux City, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987, one daughter Sheron Larson, and five brothers, Eugene Doyle, Frank Doyle, Mike Doyle, Art Doyle, and Roy Doyle.
