Donald L. Watson

Donald L. Watson, 67 of South Sioux City, passed away suddenly on October 6, 2017.  Funeral services will be held Friday, October 13, at 10:30 A.M. at Becker Hunt Funeral Home, South Sioux City, with Reverend Karen Tjarks presiding. Burial will be at Omaha Valley Cemetery in Homer. Visitation is 4:00–8:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 12, with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Donald (Don) was born in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Gilbert and Anne (Muhe) Watson on November 17, 1949. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1970. He worked several occupations in the South Sioux City area and, in the 1990s, owned and operated Don’s Union 76 service station on Dakota Avenue. After closing the station, he assumed the running of the family business, Watson Disposal Service, until his retirement in 2010. After a brief retirement, he returned to work as a delivery driver for Vanguard. Don was devoted to family and greatly enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, siblings, nephews, nieces, and friends. He was well known for his life-long love of cars and enjoyed traveling the area over the years showing his Corvettes in car shows. He was also a die-hard fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Chicago Bears football teams. Don is survived by his children, son William Watson of Seattle, WA; daughters Lacey Watson (James Keller) and Amber Watson Bekish, both of Dakota City; grandchildren Riley Watson, Lilly Keller and Sophie Watson; brother Lawrence (Mary) Watson, South Sioux City; former spouse Nancy Custer Watson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special companion. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Marion Watson, Marilyn Watson Hattig, Marvin Watson, Margaret Watson, Herbert Watson, and half-brother Stanley VanCleave.
