Harold James Gill, 86, of South Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Sioux City surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11am Saturday March 10, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Jackson, NE with burial to follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Jackson NE. A celebration of life service will be held at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Jackson NE, on Friday March 9, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with family present with a wake service at 7:00 P.M. all at the church. Harold was born March 19, 1931 in Jackson Nebraska at his family home to James Harold Gill and Mary Loretta (Merchant) Gill. He attended grade school through high school in Jackson Nebraska. Harold was blessed to meet his loving wife Evelyn Lucille (Chase) and they were wed April 14, 1952 is Sioux City, Iowa. They were married for 58 years, Evelyn passed away November 15, 2010. Harold served in the Navy during the Korean War. Following his stent in the Navy, Harold returned and he and Evelyn made their home in South Sioux City NE Harold was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion, and his 11 children were entertained as he shadow-boxed about the house, some even tried their hand at boxing. Harold was employed in the meat packing business for most of his life. Harold enjoyed bowling, fishing, and golf. He promised, with a smile, to save a tee time for his son-in-law. He was always upbeat and never once heard to complain. Every day he would recite “every day is beautiful”. Survivors include his sons, James (Carol) Gill, Jerry (Kerry) Gill, Larry (Jeanne) Gill, daughters, Monica (Doug) Bush, Cheryl (Jim) Burkett, Cathy Profera, Vicki (Rocky) DeWitt, Paula (Barry) Bliven, Karla (Greg) Polley. He is survived by 30 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren. Harold was proceeded in death by two daughters, Cindy Bryne (Gill) and Veronica Gill, three grandchildren, three sisters and one brother.
