Arnold “Arnie” C. Nelsen, 83, of North Sioux City, South Dakota (formerly of the Audubon, Iowa area) died Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Prairie Estates in Elk Point, South Dakota.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel (3220 Stone Park Blvd) in Sioux City. Arnold “Arnie” C. Nelsen, 83, of North Sioux City, South Dakota formerly of the Audubon Iowa area died Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Prairie Estates in Elk Point, South Dakota.
Arnie, the son of Emmert and Margaret (Herron) Nelsen, was born Saturday, March 2, 1935 near Coon Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Audubon High School in Audubon, Iowa. While in high school, he excelled in athletics and was All-State Wrestler in 1954-1955. Arnie attended the University of Iowa on an athletic scholarship.
In 1955, Arnie was united in marriage to Beverly Larson and this union was blessed with seven children. Arnie and Beverly later divorced.
In August of 1983, he married Karen Liston Brewer. They made their home in the North Sioux area for the past thirty-five years.
Arnie was a truck driver for several companies but truly loved hauling livestock for Silver Creek.
Arnie enjoyed woodworking and causing trouble. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a past member of the NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; children: Julie Colebank, Michael Nelsen, Renae (Don) Schlater, Lisa (Tim) Alexander and Carla Nelsen; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings: Darrell (Sue) Nelsen, Tom (Betsy) Nelsen, Marie Myers, Vitta Rattenborg, Don (Dorothy) Nelsen, Phyllis Cort, and Frank (Marlene) Nelsen; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jeri; son, Chad; and one brother in infancy, Emmert.
