Newcastle, NE – Barry L. Bennett, 76, of Newcastle, NE died Friday, October 12, 2018, at his residence.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Newcastle with Father Andrew Sohm officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Newcastle. Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m., Monday with a wake service at 7 p.m. at the church. 

Barry was born January 29, 1942 in Newcastle, NE, the son of Robert and Cleone (Anderson) Bennett. He graduated from Newcastle High School in 1959. Barry married Adell H. Nelson on September 10, 1966 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. To this union three children were born: Susan, Scott, and Daniel. The family made their home near Newcastle. Barry worked various jobs including excavation, for Swift Packing Company, and as a USDA Meat Inspector for 20 years before retirement. He and Adell also owned and operated A&B drive-in for a few years.

Barry loved the outdoors and all it had to offer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and birdwatching along with riding his tractor and riding lawn mower. He also loved to eat and bake, but above all he loved his time with his grandchildren. Barry was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Barry is survived by one daughter, Susan (LaMont) Johnson of Crofton, NE; two sons: Scott (Angie) Bennett and Daniel Bennett all of Newcastle; four grandchildren: MaKenzie and Madison Johnson and Brigette and Brenden Bennett; three siblings: Barb Hangman of Waco, TX, Deb Bennett of Newcastle, NE, and Chris (Deanna) Bennett of Ponca, NE; sister in law Carol Bennett of Newcastle, NE and many nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Adell on December 30, 2016, brother Doug Bennett, and nephew Jacob Bennett.
