On October 7th, 2018 Patricia Gaynelle Benton, 89, went to Heaven to join her many friends, family, and dogs who preceded her in death. She had struggled with health concerns for several months.
Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, October 12th, 2018 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation with the family present will start at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery.
Pat was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on April 29, 1929, the only child of Edmund and Evelyn Wiese. She is survived by her husband Dr. F. Richard “Dick” Benton, 2 sons: Douglas (Arlene) of Marshfield, WI and Bradley (Ann) of Paola, KS; 5 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
She and Dick were married after he saw her picture featured in the Sioux City Journal while he was stationed in Japan in 1945. He proceeded to charm her with letters and then in person upon his return, leading to their marriage 70 years ago. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and homemaker, while working most of her child rearing years in healthcare and retail sales, as well as attending college.
She always filled the room with joy, positive thoughts, and her million-dollar smile. Her presence brightened any event and many memories will be cherished of the holidays, anniversaries, and other family gatherings at their home.
The couple moved to Four Seasons Drive 22 years ago, where she enjoyed a peaceful and well-deserved retirement, celebrating life and continuing to host friends and family, always in the true spirit of her Christian faith.
If you knew her, she instantly became your friend. Her legacy includes the valuable lessons of devotion, patience, kindness, consideration, sacrifice, and above all, a firm commitment to serving her family, and others in the most compassionate of Christian philosophies.
In Lieu of Flowers, contributions will be most appreciated to the Pat Benton Memorial Fund for Diabetes and Alzheimer’s research in care of Security National Bank.
